Microsoft’s expansion of its data center base in Hyderabad is a significant boost to the city’s growing status as a key hub for data centers.
Microsoft has acquired 48 acres of land in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore to establish a new data center as part of its expansion plans in India. The company announced in January 2023 that it will be investing ₹16,000 crore in constructing three data centers in Hyderabad.
Microsoft Corporation (India) Private Limited, a software company based in Mumbai, is preparing to develop a new Data Center at HYD 01 in Mekaguda village, Nandigama, Rangareddy district, Telangana. The property is situated around forty kilometers away from the main city of Hyderabad, and Microsoft paid a premium price for the land. A Data Center serves as a centralized facility for an organization’s shared IT operations and equipment, used for storing, processing, and distributing data and applications.
The proposed project involves constructing new buildings on a greenfield site with a plot area of 87,412 square meters. The land-use designation for the site is “Manufacturing Use Zone” under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
The total build-up area of the site is 63,016 square meters, exceeding the threshold specified in the EIA notification of September 14, 2006, as amended to date.
Accessibility:
- Roads: The site is connected to NH 44 (Kurnool Road) via the road on the western side of the plot.
- Railway: The nearest railway station, Kothur, is located 7 km north of the site boundary.
- Airport: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad is approximately 22 km northeast of the project site.
