Every year, the Bathini family distributes ‘Fish Prasadam‘ to people suffering from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
The Bathini Goud family, renowned for their tradition of distributing fish prasadam, will once again be providing this unique treatment for asthma and respiratory illnesses. This year, the distribution will take place at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds from 10 am on June 8 till 10 am on June 9.
The fish prasadam, which has been administered for the past 175 years, will continue to be distributed to those in need. The Bathini family has decided to carry on this tradition on the auspicious occasion of Mrigasira Karthi, falling on June 8.
To commence the distribution, a special puja will be performed at the ancestral house of the Bathini family in Doodbowli. Following this, the fish prasadam will be distributed at the Exhibition Grounds without interruption.
Anticipating a higher turnout this year, Shivanand Goud mentioned that last year, two lakh people availed of the fish prasadam. This year, they are expecting a 10% increase in the number of beneficiaries. The Bathini family has made arrangements with the fisheries department to ensure an adequate supply of murrel fingerlings for the event. Additionally, they have sought permission from the Exhibition Society to conduct the distribution.
What is Fish Prasadam?
Fish Prasadam, also known as “Fish Medicine” or “Fish Prasadam“, is a homeopathic remedy. It involves stuffing a herbal paste into a live murrel fish(a type of freshwater fish), which is then swallowed whole by the patient. The recipe for this treatment has been a closely guarded secret within the Bathini family.
The administration of the treatment usually takes place on Mrigasira Karthi day, which commonly occurs in the month of June and is regarded as a propitious occasion. Patients are instructed to ingest the live fish along with the herbal paste. However, for individuals who follow a vegetarian diet or are unable to consume the live fish, the herbal paste is administered in conjunction with a banana.
