Hyderabad double decker bus ticket price

Hyderabad’s roads are once again graced by the presence of double-decker buses, making a comeback after a hiatus of two decades. However, this time, these iconic vehicles will be seen in their new electric avatar. Moreover, travelers in Hyderabad can now enjoy the convenience of free travel on these double-decker buses.

The city of Hyderabad has a rich historical significance when it comes to double-decker buses. These iconic vehicles were first introduced by the Nizam and remained a prominent mode of transportation in the city until 2003.

Hyderabad double decker bus routes

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Urban Development Authority (HMDA) has acquired six electric double-decker buses at a staggering cost of Rs 12.96 crore. These buses are currently in operation on significant tourism routes, covering key city landmarks such as Tank Bund, Birla Mandir, Assembly, Salar Jung Museum, Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Golconda, Taramati Baradari, Gandipet Park, Durgam Cheruvu, Cable Bridge, IT Corridor, and Financial District. Despite being deployed on three key routes of the city, namely Raidurg metro station to Waverock, Jubilee bus station to Salar Jung, and around Tank Bund, each bus alone costs 2 crore.

HMDA intends to expand its fleet to a maximum of 30 buses. As per officials, each bus costs 2.16 crore and includes an AMC for approximately seven years. These buses are fully electric, have a seating capacity of 65 passengers plus the driver, and can travel up to 150 kilometers on a single charge. It takes 2-2.5 hours to fully charge them. The buses measure 9.8 meters in length and 4.7 meters in height. Special charging points have been set up at Khairatabad STP and Sanjeevaiah Park for these buses.

Hyderabad double-decker bus timings

At present, the buses commence their journey from Sanjeevaiah Park exclusively at 10 am, which is considerably after the morning rush hour. Three of these buses are destined for Cyber Towers and Waverock, with a 15-minute interval between each service, and they operate until 2 pm. During this time frame, they are barely able to complete two trips. Similarly, on the JBS-Salar Jung route, buses only run until 2 pm. Subsequently, from 4 pm to 8 pm, all six buses circulate around Tank Bund. However, on either of these routes, they do not make any stops at TSRTC bus stops, making it challenging for passengers to avail themselves of their services.
